The customer

Plan A is a software solutions provider based in Sofia, Bulgaria. The company has developed itself in the area of big data management and digitization of various types of archives. By cooperating with state and local institutions as well as enterprise partners, Plan A has cultivated know-how in creating software for monitoring and managing physical infrastructure which proved crucial in the joint project that ITIDO also participated in.

The project: digital control of real-world objects

A large Bulgarian enterprise was assigned the task to track, control, and perform planning of water infrastructure sites like reservoirs, pipes, pump stations, etc. This is part of a national drive to bring transparency and flexible management to various sectors of public importance. To create a modern all-in-one software product, the enterprise subcontracted the project to Plan A which joined forces with ITIDO.

The web system had to provide insights for strategic decision-making when it comes to maintaining, repairing, and developing the infrastructure. Among other features, the software had to provide on-demand reports and analyses on various water utilities.

The challenge

At the core of the product is an open-source GIS interface. In terms of the use case, we can say that data analysts should feed information on water pipes, pump stations, reservoirs, measuring devices, and other water infrastructure in the GIS module. The application aggregates data from different sources allowing comparative analysis of water networks in different cities or towns. An intuitive dashboard with a layered map helps users generate the necessary reports.

The project experienced delays by the main contractor. It had to be quickly taken back to its original timeline while the software team made sure defects were fixed.

The solution and ITIDO’s role in it

Acting as one team, the software engineers of Plan A and ITIDO implemented digital monitoring and overview of the state of the water infrastructure covered by the system. In particular, the team created new features for improved reporting. After intensive bug fixing of the accumulated issues, the project got back on the right track.

Most notably, ITIDO helped in creating the visual aspect of the software. By bringing the necessary expertise and manpower, we implemented new UI features that ultimately helped the entire team avoid the impending penalty fees by the assignor.

“We worked together with ITIDO on a complex GIS project where they helped us with the development of the web application. Their team managed to join our project very fast and to deliver on time with very good quality. During our cooperation, they played the role of professional and competent partner. ”
